Call for Papers

Ecos de Economía is A Latin American Journal of Applied Economics managed by the School of Economics and Finance of Universidad EAFIT in Medellín, Colombia. The journal is peer-reviewed and has been published twice a year since 1996. The journal is widely indexed and is rated A2 in Publindex.

The journal is currently seeking manuscripts for its June and December 2017 issue, but articles will be published online as soon as they are in final published form. The journal prefers articles in English but also accepts articles in Spanish. Authors should be aware that articles in English are likely to reach a larger readership than articles in Spanish.

Papers Sought

The Journal seeks to publish articles that will be of interest to the international research community in the fields of applied economics and finance. The Journal is not interested in manuscripts that are solely conceptual in nature. Articles ideally should include a valid conceptual model and an empirical test of the model using valid data and appropriate statistical techniques. Manuscripts should not exceed 10,000 words. Graphs are welcome if they are informative about the subject addressed.

The Journal has a particular interest in the analysis of economic, financial, and public policy issues and/or themes related to Latin America. Articles that present and analyze national data are particularly welcome, since these data are often unavailable to international researchers. Papers should be concise and should not have a flowery or unnecessarily elaborate style. Readers may not have English or Spanish as a first language, so the presentation should be appropriate for this type of reader.

When deciding whether to submit an article to the Journal, authors should first ask whether the Latin American regional community or the international community is likely to find the subject of interest and the analysis of sufficient quality to be convincing. In the article the authors should explain the contribution that the manuscript makes to the international literature in either economics or finance. If the article is focused on a national issue, it should include enough background information so that a researcher from another country can understand the analysis presented.

Editorial Review Policy

All submitted manuscripts are initially reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief. If they are not appropriate for the journal due to subject matter or presentation, they are returned to the author(s) relatively quickly. If the Editor-in-Chief finds a manuscript to be potentially promising, either with or without consultation with the Associate Editors, it is then sent to an appropriate referee for a comprehensive review. Once this review is complete, the Editor-in-Chief decides whether to reject the manuscript or proceed with the editorial review process. The referee´s review is provided to the author(s) regardless of this decision. Ecos de Economia attempts to provide an initial response within a few months, but it depends on the cooperation of volunteer reviewers to make this possible.
