Ingeniería y Ciencia is a biannual journal edited by the Schools of Science and Engineering, Universidad EAFIT since 2004. The Ingeniería y Ciencia journal targets the academic, scientific and industrial communities involved in the fields of Science and Engineering. Its aim is to publish original articles and reviews on basic and applied research that contribute to the development of science and industry in the short, medium or long term. Its scope is both local and international. Publication subjects include mathematics, physics, chemistry, geology and the articulation of these areas with the practice of engineering.

Focus and Scope

Ingeniería y Ciencia  provides a space for the dissemination of research results in basic sciences and their application to development and innovation in Engineering. The scope of submissions accepted for publication is limited to the following main fields: Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Computational Biology, Conservation, Digital Signal Processing, Earthquake Engineering and Seismology,  Electrical Engineering, Geology, Optics, Statistics, Telecommunications and Telematics.

Peer Review Process

Once a manuscript is received, the Editorial Committee will make an initial assessment of its suitability for inclusion in the journal. If a positive decision is reached in this regard, the article will be sent for anonymous double blind peer review

To facilitate this, authors need to ensure that their manuscripts are prepared in a way that does not give away their identity. This process will determine the academic suitability of the work and whether it can be published. It will also determine if changes are necessary to make it suitable for publication, subject to a further review.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its contents, on the principle that making research available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. Ingeniería y Ciencia authorizes sharing and adapting articles and comments according to Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.

Article Processing Charges (APCs)

Ingeniería y Ciencia does not have article processing charges (APCs). This journal is sponsored entirely, since 2005, by the Universidad EAFIT.

Code of Ethics

Ingenieria y ciencia subscribes to the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) .  The following reasons are grounds for immediate rejection of a manuscript:

  • Multiple submission
  • Deliberate use of false or inaccurate data
  • Plagiarism
  • Impersonation
  • Defamation
  • Falsification of information and documentation
  • Disclosure and conflicts of interest

Errors in published works

When an error or inaccuracy is discovered by authors in their published work, it is their obligation to promptly notify the journal editor (ingciencia@eafit.edu.co) and cooperate with the correction. Likewise, the reviewers and readers may send us, via email, comments and suggestions intended to improve our publication.

Archiving policy

Ingeniería y Ciencia authors are allowed to deposit an initial draft of their manuscript in a preprint service such as ChemRxiv, bioRxiv, arXiv prior to submission to the journal. However, authors must note any use of a preprint server in the cover letter and include a link to the preprint, and as appropriate, state how the manuscript has been adjusted/updated between deposition and submission. All other prior/redundant publication is forbidden.

Upon publication in Ingeniería y Ciencia authors are advised to add a link from the preprint to the published paper via the Digital Object Identifier (DOI). Some services, such as ChemRxiv and bioRxiv, add this link for authors automatically after publication.

Plagiarism detection

Ingeniería y Ciencia uses the Turnitin software to detect instances of overlapping and similar text in submitted manuscripts.
