Resumen

Since writing represents an important language skill for professional and academic needs, it is our interest to deal with two aspects of writing, one being the mirror image of the other: teaching and assessing. Therefore, this document presents two main sections. The fi rst one gives an overview of the different approaches to the teaching of writing and the second suggests some guidelines to assess students’ writing. The document also includes some practical exercises to help teachers assess their understanding of the concepts herein presented.
