Abstract
This research case has been written with data taken directly from El Banco de las Oportunidades de Medellín. It´s the result of an inductive work, looking for the comprehention of the performance´s causes in this public organization, bringing emergent categories out from the cualitative data. This research was eveloped under Eafit´s investigation group “La Gerencia en Colombia”. It addreses different subjects in the leadership, culture and organizationalchange fields. A main finding is that culture and organizational identity are key aspects to explain its perfomance, but influenciated by the leadership style, the human talent and the commercialization capability. Besides, the relationships among these organizational components are also key elements to explain its performance. The contributive motivation and the leader´s example are the links between the leadership style and the human talent. The strategy, in this case, with a clear focus (the bottom of the pyramid) and a differenciated value proposition, is the link between the leadership style and the commercialization capability. Customer service is the link between the human talent and the commercialization capability. Finally, it was found that this microcredit public institution has been working as a nodal firm inside a network of organizations oriented to serve the microentrepreneurs´ needs.
