El alcohol en el presupuesto familiar: incidencia del poder adquisitivo y de la composición demográfica de los hogares

Resumen
Uno de los problemas asociados al consumo de alcohol en el contexto familiar está dado por su efecto sobre la distribución de recursos del hogar, con un peso proporcionalmente mayor en los hogares socialmente más vulnerables. Con base en lo expuesto, este trabajo tiene por objetivo conocer la influencia de características socioeconómicas y demográficas de los hogares sobre la participación de las bebidas alcohólicas en el presupuesto familiar, tomando el caso de Santa Fe (Argentina) en el período 2004-2005. Para ello se especifican curvas de Engel paramétricas, estimándose por medio de un modelo de selección muestral (Tobit tipo II), subdividiendo la muestra de hogares y siguiendo el criterio de la línea de pobreza. Los resultados muestran que las características más relevantes difieren, según el hogar sea pobre o no. En hogares no pobres, variables como la edad del jefe, la proporción de mujeres y la cantidad de menores ocasionan un efecto estadísticamente significativo sobre la participación en el gasto que tienen las bebidas alcohólicas, mientras que en hogares pobres solo parecen ser relevantes aquellas relacionadas con el poder adquisitivo.
