Abstract

The text presents an analysis on the measures taken in the last year by the French government regarding the Roma population. Its aim is to examine if the government of that country has alleged the existence of international regulations as an strategy to legitimize their electoral interests, given the fact that this government apparently steps away from the intent shown earlier by that country to relax its borders towards other European countries, by implementing policies that suggests an intention to attract right-leaning voters in the upcoming election. This also allows me to present certain shortcomings of international law and the European Union, and the need to strengthen them in order to deal with this kind of issues.
