Abstract

This essay intends to explore Arendt and Cioran’s stances, as well as their proximities with postmodern conceptions. Both authors have acquired a fundamental importance in the field of the contemporary critical thought. The complexity of their approaches make their ideas little prone to be categorized according to tendencies or to well-defined currents. For this reason, a modest revision of the disagreements of these thinkers with three fundamental matters of the so-called modernity is made: the historical individual, the Aufklärung in human actions and the idea of social utopia.
