Abstract
The educational model used in higher education at the end of colonial rule in the Viceroyalty of New Granada was based in the teaching and learning of theology and law. History shows the transit to a model based in Natural Sciences, Physics and Math. This new approach was encouraged by the illustrated neo-granadinian Creole class in the late XVIII and early XIX centuries. Their objective was contributing to the development of practical knowledge that steered the Nation through a path of economic growth.
