Abstract

The dynamic characterization of the materials used in road construction is an indispensable challenge for the regions of the country, since on this depends the sizing dimensioning of the pavement structure. The dynamic module and the Poisson relation of the asphalt mixtures, become an important parameter within design by empirical-mechanist methods, since it is part of the algorithm that helps in the definition of the thickness of each layer. The dynamic performance of the asphalt mixtures is defined by the temperature variation and the frequency of load application, even by the asphalt properties and the aggregated used in the manufacturing of such. In order to determine the dynamic properties, cylindrical probes were elaborated with materials from the exploitation of alluvial and rock deposits, and asphalts with similar characteristics, with which asphalt mixtures are manufactured in the Aburrá valley. The samples were statistically compacted to reach a unitary weight determined in the “Marshall” design method. The probes were tested in controlled temperature conditions between 5 ºC and 60 ºC and frequencies between 1 Hz and 16 Hz.
