Abstract
Science is often presented as a futuristic enterprise driven by technological innovation, aspiring to overcome the limitations of the present and the past, as well as local particularities. However, conceiving the time of science as a competition toward grand synchronization obscures and simplifies the divergence of knowledge traditions, their social needs, their technological trajectories, and the multiple ways in which they experience the time of knowledge.
