Abstract
This essay analyzes the theoretical and political transformations of the concept of landscape, challenging the traditional, purely visual notion to propose an integrative understanding with ecological, ethical, political, and multisensory dimensions. Drawing on the European Landscape Convention enacted in 2000 and its relationship with current debates surrounding the climate crisis, the Anthropocene, and the COVID-19 pandemic, the text argues that landscape transcends aesthetic contemplation : it constitutes a common good, a vital nourishing medium, and a domain of interrelations between human and more-than-human entities. Ultimately, it posits that the need for landscapes lies in the urgency of maintaining a sensitive, living, healthy, and resonant relationship with the world.
