The history of Antioquia, between reality and the imaginaries. A closer look at the version of the intellectual elites of the 19th Century

Abstract

The historiography of Antioquia and the representation that the people of Antioquia have made of themselves is currently the object of a historical study. They can be analyzed from a positive perspective in which they pretend to show that that historiography and those representations are real and truthful. Nevertheless, they can also be analyzed from a historical perspective that intends to answer the following question: How and who are the ones who have built the history of Antioquia and what is the function of their results? This project answers through the study of some works of historical character, that the intellectual elites of the 19th. Century elaborated in order to explain their past and to define their present. Such study is mainly supported on the theoretical criteria that has been developed by the history of social imaginaries in the last two decades.
