Abstract
This paper analyzes The Dark Bride, a novel written by the Colombian writer Laura Restrepo. It develops a reflection on the history and life in Tora and in the Middle Magdalena region during the first half of the twentieth century, when oil companies first arrived to the country. The work reveals the symbolism of the main character, Sayonara, through the application of concepts like focalization, actancial roles and cronotope. The plot takes place in Catunga, an old prostitution neighborhood in Tora's village, where today’s Barrancabermeja (Colombia) was built upon.
