Abstract
Establishing the methodological principles for learning a language implies taking a critical stance regarding the various theories that have tried to explain how languages are learned. These theories are essentially of philosophical, sociological, psychological and didactic order and, although there is currently no universally accepted theory, the Direction of Language Programs at EAFIT University establishes the basic principles that guide the teaching practices at the institution by taking a critical position toward these theories.
