Abstract

This article pretends to offer a mathematical model to calculate the values of the possible affective states that a song would conjure up in response to a person. For this purpose, the emotional content associated with intervals, chords, scales, tempo, rhythmic figures, etc. was analyzed. Then, a system of equations was constructed by means of the concept of probability, thus replicating the physiology of emotion, whereby the notion of external stimulus was used. This stimulus was assigned to the musical parameters, whereas the internal stimuli were introduced in order to include the subjectivity of each individual by its corresponding emotional response. In that way, each emotion was given a probability value that is divided into "yes, it is felt" and "no, it is not felt". Finally, a mathematical mechanism was devised to determine the probability distribution in response to one’s emotional perception while listening to a song.
